It's quite difficult to ignore the "new wave" of artistes who are coming with their own sound and making serious waves in the Nigerian music industry today. They are bold and unapologetic with their own style of music and we absolutely love it. Today we got to talk with one of those artistes and its none other than the guitar legend himself, Sydney of Africa. Watch out for him, you'll be hearing his name everywhere pretty soon. So who is Sydney ? My name is Nwankwo Sydney Chinemerem. I’m dark skinned, 5’8, skinny, beardless, 19, food lover, guitarist, rapper, singer..music/tech/soccer enthusiast What got you interested in music? I’ve always been attracted to sound, so I said to myself “Rather than listening to this sound, let me create something similar or even better”. So you found yourself attracted to the guitar. Why not any other instrument? The Guitar has this soothing and spiritual vibe it gives me. it’s exceptional. So you feel transported to another pane whenever you play Exactly, a whole new dimension entirely Do you plan to make a career of that? making music with the guitar I plan on making more than just music, I'd love to reach to hearts connect with people all over the world What message would you like to be spreading? Love, Life and Societal issues You just have the one song, cover of Nonso Amadi's tonight. Plan on releasing more stuff soon? Yes I have a single coming up soon called “ broken heart” but written as “Hxxxt” Creative. When should we expect it? Before summer Who are your musical icons ? Jimi Hendrix, Fela, Bob Marley. Why do you admire them ? Their unique sound, the message, the inspirations behind their music. What new music do you like? Long Live the Queen by Nonso Amadi, Ye by Burna boy, Don’t Kill My Vibe by Sigrid, River by Ed sheeran and Eminem What are your thoughts on the new age music? I like the toll it’s taking, it’s changing, unique sounds everywhere, not the basic vibe we flow with. With the success of those other artistes, do you feel it would be easy for likes of you to ease into the industry? Hopefully, I’m doing my best, the rest is on God.
